Rearranging the deck chairs

Jim Bates has joined Greg Robinson, Ray Rhodes, and Larry Coyer in the pantheon of Shanahan's failed defensive coordinator choices.

To be fair to Coyer, he wasn't really a failure. He just happened to be the necessary sacrifice to the altar of the cult of personality around Shanahan.

The faces surrounding Mike Shanahan continue to change, the results continue to stay the same.

Does anybody truly think a new defensive coordinator is going to make any difference?

As a life long Broncos fan I want to first thank you for your site and secondly agree whole-heartedly on your points about these defensive coordinators.

Shanahan has long outlived his welcome. He fires coordinators every year and nothing changes - sounds like the definition of insanity to me.

Pat Bowlen won't ever let Shanahan go and that is what is ridiculous. As much as the Wade Phillips years stunk, at least he was good at something.

Shanahan pisses good talent away and he is simply inept as a head coach, period and past championings aside.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Replacing Jim Bates is like sticking a band-aid on a wound that requires a tourniquet. It's not going to help us any, especially when you consider the lack of talent that we have on defense thanks to Shanahan.

It has become so painfully obvious that Shanahan is the problem and until Mr. Bowlen finally wakes up and realizes that 1998 is ancient history, this team is destined for more mediocrity.

I got kicked off the Denver Broncos 'official' message board after the first 2007 preseason game for simply pointing out that the Bates hire WAS a bad hire and Bates would be fired at season's end.

The reasons why Bates was a bad hire are moot now. What is becoming more visible is it that it is getting harder for Shanahan to bring in a decent assistant. Shanahan tried to bring in SChan Gailey who had the pleasure of working for Shanahan. Gailey made it clear to Shanhan, thanks but no thanks. He rather work for Herm Edwards in KC than his old boss in Denver, If that wasn't a kick in the teeth then nothing is.

I have written quite a bit how Shanahan has become everything he once hated and that is, he has become a carbon copy of Al Davis.
